In an ICC Twenty20 World Cup Africa qualifier today in Windhoek, Namibia, associate nation Uganda shocked Test nation Zimbabwe by five wickets, thus jeopardising the Test nation’s qualification for the mega event.

Sikander Raza, the captain, was put to bat and scored 48 runs off of 39 balls as Zimbabwe amassed 136-7 in 20 overs.

With five balls remaining, Uganda managed to reach the mark because to the impressive contributions of Alpesh Ramjani (40 off 26 deliveries) and Riazat Ali Shah (42 off 28 balls).

In any version of the game, Uganda has never before defeated a Test nation.

Zimbabwe had previously lost to Namibia by seven wickets in their initial encounter on November 22. This was their second loss in three qualifiers.

With three games remaining in the seven-team qualifying, Zimbabwe is currently ranked fourth.

The 20-team T20 World Cup in 2024 will feature the top two qualifying teams.

With three victories in three games, Namibia and Kenya are presently leading the standings, while Uganda is in third place with two victories and a loss.

To qualify, Zimbabwe needs to win their final three games against Rwanda, Nigeria, and Kenya and hope that the other two outcomes go their way as well.
