Kkr release shakib and liton 0

Prior to the December 19 auction in Dubai, Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and opener Liton Das were released by their respective Indian Premier League (IPL) teams.

In the 2023 competition, Shakib and Liton represented the two-time champion Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

There would still be a chance for the two to be selected at the auction.

Shakib was signed by KKR for the upcoming season for the second time after going unpicked in 2022. But the all-rounder withdrew from the competition without participating in any games for personal reasons.

Conversely, Liton, a wicketkeeper-batter who also made his IPL debut, played for the KKR in a single game, scoring four runs but failing to be stumped.

Out of the twelve players that KKR released, Shakib and Liton are the only two. The team parted ways with international players Lockie Ferguson, Tim Southee, Johnson Charles, and David Wiese but kept West Indies pair Andre Russell and Sunil Narine.

Notable local omissions are Umesh Yadav and Shardul Thakur.

The Delhi Capitals had already released Mustafizur Rahman, a left-arm pacer from Bangladesh.

At a base price of Rs 2 crores, the franchise acquired Mustafizur, but his lacklustre performance—he took one wicket in two games at an economy rate of 11.29—prevented him from making the squad as the competition progressed.
