The Bangladesh Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association has written a letter of protest to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan, citing a lack of respect from Umpires’ Committee head Iftekhar Ahmed Mithu.
The complaint letter is in response to media leaks revealing the six umpires who were recently removed from Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) games due to poor on-field decisions in the just ended NCL. The letter also accused the chairman of the Umpires’ Committee of providing misleading information during a tournament committee meeting, as well as alleging that proper procedure was not followed in suspending the umpires.
Syed Mozahiduzzaman Swapan, Mohammad Wahid, Joynal Abedin, Shyful Islam Jewel, Shafiuddin Ahmed Babu, and Asad Ur Rahman are the six umpires in question.
The umpires were to be summoned for’self-defense,’ and if additional training was required, it could be obtained, the BCB umpires’ committee had earlier notified The Daily Star.
“We called the six [who were suspended from BCL].” They were not asked [by the fact-finding committee] what they were to blame. They have not been contacted,” Mujibur Rahman, joint secretary of the Umpires and Scorers Association, told reporters yesterday.
“We must have the ability to defend ourselves.” Normally, verdicts are not made public, and if they had to suspend, they should have done it discreetly,” he added.
