Pat Cummins, the captain of Australia that won the World Cup, Travis Head, a teammate, and Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja, the runners-up from India, are the contenders for the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year award.
The candidates for the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy were unveiled by the ICC on their website today.
After an incredible year as captain and player, Cummins was nominated. He led his side to the ICC World Test Championship 2023 trophy and the Ashes back in addition to winning the ODI World Cup in India and taking 59 wickets in 24 matches across all forms.
Additionally, Head had an incredible 2023, leading his side on the biggest platforms with player-of-the-match showings in both the ODI World Cup and the Test Championship final.
The left-hander defeated other players from the World Cup-winning squad to reach the list with an overall total of 1698 runs in 31 games in 2023.
After a fantastic year in which he amassed 2048 runs in 35 games, including six ODI hundreds, India’s talisman Kohli topped the list. With this achievement, he became the first batsman in the history of the game to reach a half-century of centuries in the 50-over format.
The sole all-rounder on the list, Jadeja, qualified for the nomination after amassing 613 runs and collecting wickets in 35 games in 2023.
