All of the Bangladesh under-19 World Cup players received top-notch bats from former ODI captain Tamim Iqbal.
During their Asia Cup campaign last month, many players, most notably opener Ashikur Rahman Shibli, had said that they would want to get top-notch bats from Tamim.
Shibli and his teammates received far more than they could have imagined when Tamim, following talks with CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury Sujon and President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Nazmul Hassan, arranged for premium bats from the well-known bat manufacturer CA, which also sponsors the handsome left-hander.
on keeping with his image as a kind person, Tamim chose to buy bats for each of the 15 players on the under-19 team rather than selling them.
The bats were given to the young Tigers at the training session on Friday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium’s indoor facility by the Bangladeshi legend, who had personally received them from the CA firm during his visit to Dubai.
Former Bangladesh cricketer and age-level selector Hannan Sarkar told the media on Friday that “Ashikur Rahman Shibli came to me and asked whether I could request Tamim Iqbal to arrange a few top-quality bats for them since we all know he uses the most expensive bats among the national team players” during the Asia Cup campaign.
“When Tamim asked how many bats I needed, I told him it was okay if I received three or four bats after telling him about the situation over the phone. However, Tamim gave me another call the next day to let me know that he had chosen to set up bats for each of the squad’s fifteen players after speaking with the CEO and president of BCB.”
To inspire them before the major event, Bangladesh’s top all-format run-getter also shared his early-career experience with the delighted group.
Tamim inspired the stand-by players as well as the other fifteen members of the squad by sharing his own story of being cut from the youth team and being placed on the stand-by list. However, he continued to play for the national team six months later. According to Tamim, people must have self-belief,” Hannan said.
On January 7, the young Tigers are scheduled to go for South Africa to participate in the ICC Under-19 World Cup.
