England batsman Joe Root has reclaimed the top spot in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings after scoring 118 not out and 46 in the first Test in Birmingham, which was won by the visiting Australia side by two wickets on Tuesday.
The first time Root was ranked number one was in August 2015, and the last time was in December of last year, when Australian Marnus Labuschagne was ranked number one. Currently, Root has 887 rating points, four more than second-placed Kane Williamson and ten more than third-placed Labuschagne.
Usman Khawaja, who scored 141 and 65 in the Ashes opening and was named Man of the Match, also moved up within the top ten, moving up two spots to seventh place.
Harry Brook of England (five places to thirteenth) and Alex Carey of Australia (seven places to twenty-ninth) also made significant gains in the batting rankings as a result of their performances in Birmingham.
Ollie Robinson and Stuart Broad, two fast bowlers for England, have earned one position each after completing the match with five and six wickets, respectively. Robinson is in fifth place and Broad is in ninth on the list lead by Ravichandran Ashwin, while veteran James Anderson maintains second place.
Mohimul climbed 17 positions to 53rd place in the most recent weekly update, which also factors in his performance in the one-off Test between Bangladesh and Afghanistan in Mirpur, after scoring 121 runs in the second innings. His colleague Najmul Hossain Shanto jumped 25 positions to 54th after scoring his first century. He hit 146 in the first inning and 124 in the second, both equally impressive.
After taking two wickets for 15 runs in just nine overs, Mehidy Hasan jumped two spots to 25th on the bowlers’ list. Ebadot Hossain and Shoriful Islam, his companion bowlers, took four wickets for 47 runs and two wickets for 28 runs, respectively, advancing three and twelve places to 62nd and 71st on the list.
Sri Lankan batsmen have risen in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings following their performances in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe. Kariyawasa Asalanka climbed three positions to forty, while colleagues Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka vaulted five positions from sixty-second to fifty-seventh.
Oman batters Aquib Ilyas Sulehri, who climbed four spots to 51st, Zeeshan Maqsood, who climbed six spots from 65th to 59th, and Kashyap Prajapati, who climbed five spots to 91st, also made notable gains. Maqsood climbed five spots to reach 40th in the bowlers’ rankings and two spots to achieve his career-high of number three in the all-rounders’ list.
Sean Williams of Zimbabwe moved up five spots to 53rd, while captain Craig Ervine jumped 12 spots to 79th.
Meanwhile, Saurabh Netravalkar has reached a career-high 18th place in the bowlers’ rankings, becoming the first American to crack the top 20 in either the batting or bowling listings of the ODI rankings.
UAE’s Aayan Afzal Khan moved up 10 positions to 37th, while Zimbabwe’s Blessing Muzarabani and Richard Ngarava climbed from 58th and 66th to 54th and 59th, respectively.
