Real Madrid announced Wednesday that Toni Kroos has agreed to a contract extension and will remain with the club for the upcoming season.

The 33-year-old midfielder’s previous contract was set to expire at the end of June, but he will now remain at Madrid for a tenth season.

Since joining Real from Bayern Munich in 2014, when he also won the World Cup with Germany, Kroos has won four Champions Leagues and three La Liga titles.

Carlo Ancelotti had previously stated that he anticipated Kroos and 37-year-old midfielder Luka Modric to remain at Santiago Bernabeu for another season.

In addition to Fede Valverde and French youths Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavingo, Madrid signed English adolescent Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund for more than 100 million euros ($108 million) last week, bolstering their midfield options.
