On Saturday, Paul Smalley, who was the technical and strategy head for the Bangladesh Football Federation, gave his notice. This ended his second job two years into a three-year deal.
The British coach, who is 56 years old, told the media that he and his bosses could not come to an agreement about working conditions and other issues.
“Over the last month and a half, I’ve talked with the BFF president about how I’d like to see some changes made to how BFF works, especially with the number of people in some areas. He had asked me for time to do these things, but since they haven’t been done, Smalley told reporters at a hotel in the capital that he had chosen to quit.
Smalley had always been more active with women’s teams, and he was often criticized for that. He didn’t play in the senior team’s FIFA matches against Nepal, which are still going on.
People thought that he couldn’t reach a deal with the BFF about the raise in pay and perks he wanted. But Smalley shot down this idea by saying that money had nothing to do with his choice to quit.
President Kazi Salahuddin stated that the retirement has been accepted by BFF. “We accept resignations because we don’t try to change someone’s mind when they want to leave,” Salahuddin said during a visit to the women’s team hotel, calling Smalley the best technical director he has ever had.
