Muktijoddha Sangsad lost to Chittagong Abahani 2-1 in their penultimate match of the Bangladesh Premier League in Gopalganj today.
This was the first time that Muktijoddha Sangsad had been kicked out of the top level of professional football league.
Two times in the professional era, which started in 2007, Muktijoddha finished second in the league. However, they only got 15 points out of 19 games, which was four points less than Rahmatganj, who stayed in the top tier by drawing 0-0 with Sheikh Russel in the other game of the day.
Before professional soccer started, the freedom warriors’ club won two Dhaka Premier League titles, one National Championship, and three Federation Cup titles. Next season, they will join Azapur FC in the Bangladesh Championship League.
In the next season of the Bangladesh Premier League, Brothers Union and Gopalganj SC will take those two spots.
