The president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Nazmul Hassan Papon, met with Tamim Iqbal at his Gulshan home today and stated that he will investigate the circumstances behind the team’s appalling performance in the ICC World Cup only after the BPL.
“I informed him [Tamim] that I would accept my decision following the BPL,” Papon said to reporters following his discussion with the opener.
“All of the players and the coaching staff will be present when the BPL begins following the election. “During that period, I can gather all the necessary data and make the best decision for our cricket team,” stated Papon, an Awami League candidate running in the Kishoreganj-6 constituency of the 2019 national elections.
For the first time since the player’s exclusion from the World Cup selection due to fitness concerns, the former captain of the Bangladeshi ODI team and the BCB president had an in-person meeting.
Following his exclusion, Tamim claimed in a social media video that he had an argumentative phone call with a BCB executive that resulted in his removal.
According to Papon, Tamim got in touch with him because he wanted to provide a lot of team internal information that the BCB president was unaware of.
The head of BCB stated that he heard what Tamim had to say and will decide after consulting with all relevant parties.
“I refuse to follow other people’s advice. I must first identify the nature of the issue. I want to find the source of the issue. He declared, “I’ll talk to everyone, find out everything, and then make my own decision.”
Papon, who is serving his third term as president of the BCB, has promised to address every issue facing the national team before the end of his current term and has stated that he is prepared to make difficult choices when needed.
“My time on this earth is coming to an end. The end of this term is near. One more year remains. My goal is to get the squad back on track before my tenure finishes. I’ll take whatever required action. I will make the tough choice, even if it means going against my better judgement.”
