Mominul Haque, a former captain of Bangladesh, scored his 12th century in the Test format on Friday, helping his team set Afghanistan a formidable target score of 662 runs to beat in the one-off match that took place in Mirpur.
In their second innings, Bangladesh reached 425 for four in 80 overs before declaring victory. Mominul remained not out after scoring 121 runs off 145 deliveries, while Liton Das did not lose a wicket while scoring 66 runs. When Afghanistan batted in response, they were bowled out for 146 runs after Bangladesh had scored 382 in their first innings.
After scoring 11 hundreds in the first eight years of his Test career, Mominul didn’t earn another century in the test format for more than two years. His previous century had been scored against Sri Lanka at Pallekele in April of 2021. The short-statured hitter had played in 13 tests and had 27 innings, but he had never reached the triple-digit mark.
However, he came out on top and put an end to that dry spell in spectacular fashion by scoring his 12th century in his 105th innings, with the century coming off just 123 deliveries.
