Ben Stokes, the captain of England, has promised that his team’s high-energy approach to the Ashes series against their fiercest rivals, Australia, would not slow down at any point throughout the competition, which will begin on Friday.
Since Stokes and Brendon McCullum joined forces to form the ultra-aggressive New Zealand cricket team a year ago, they have won 11 of the 13 tests that they have coached together.
At a news conference held on the eve of the opening match of the five-match series on Thursday at Edgbaston, all-rounder Stokes, a veteran of several Ashes campaigns, said that his team’s mindset was one of calm confidence going into the contest.
“Oh, I wish I started tomorrow,” the captain, who is 32 years old, remarked when the day finally arrived for the start of the series. “Every day we edge closer to the start of the series it has been like ‘Oh I wish I started tomorrow.'”
“We are looking forward to getting started very much. It has been a protracted wait until this moment.”
Stokes said that England were dedicated to playing their all-action style of cricket despite the difficulty of facing Pat Cummins’ men, who have the world’s three top-ranked batsmen in their ranks and have a dangerous pace attack. Stokes made this statement in response to a question on whether or not England would continue to play their all-action brand of cricket.
The current owners of the Ashes, Australia, were victorious in the last match of the World Test Championship, which took place at The Oval last week.
