Paul Stirling and Curtis Campher achieved the rare feat of becoming the third and fourth Irishmen to score centuries in the longest format of cricket.

On Tuesday, Ireland achieved their highest Test score of 492, with Paul Stirling and Curtis Campher becoming the third and fourth Irish players to score centuries in the longest format of cricket.

Stirling and Campher scored centuries in the second Test against Sri Lanka in Galle, but they were both out before Tea on the second day. Balbirnie had also made 95 runs on the first day as the captain.

Lorcan Tucker scored 80 runs, which was helpful. Prabath Jayasuriya, who was the star of the first Test, took five wickets for 174 runs. Asitha Fernando and Vishwa Fernando also took two wickets each.

Ireland became a Test team in 2017 and have yet to win a game in their five matches played.

In their first match against Pakistan in 2018, the highest Test score was 339.

Stirling had to stop playing cricket due to cramps in extremely hot and humid weather on Monday, but returned to play on Tuesday after Tucker was out. Stirling had scored 74 runs before retiring.

Stirling hit a six over deep point to score his first Test hundred and now has scored centuries in all three formats of the game.

Shortly after, the bowler got Stirling out for 103 when Stirling hit a short delivery towards the fine-leg boundary and Dhananjaya de Silva caught it.

De Silva made a great diving catch at first slip to dismiss Campher, giving Jayasuriya his third wicket in the innings.

In the first Test, Ireland was defeated by a margin of one innings and 280 runs.
