Arshdeep Singh, a paceman for the Punjab Kings, credits his shortened run up for helping him avoid bowling no-balls. His death-over heroics helped his team secure a thrilling victory over the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Saturday.
Arshdeep’s capacity to withstand pressure and consistently deliver yorkers during the tense final overs of T20 matches has made him a valuable asset to the national team.
The 24-year-old bowler has been experiencing difficulty with his consistency and was the first to give away five no-balls during a T20 match against Sri Lanka in January.
Arshdeep struggled in the home series against New Zealand, but he returned to form in the match against Mumbai.
The cricketer stated that he made some adjustments to his run-up before the IPL tournament, shortening it in order to address his no-ball issue, which ultimately helped him achieve a successful 4-29 performance in a closely contested match.
I’m currently loving the rhythm and enjoying playing cricket.
Punjab batted first and scored 214-8, but Mumbai responded strongly with Cameron Green (67) and Rohit Sharma (44) leading the way, followed by Suryakumar Yadav’s quick 57 off 26 balls.
In the Mumbai cricket match, they had seven wickets left and needed 40 runs to win in the last three overs. However, Arshdeep stopped Suryakumar’s impressive batting streak in the 18th over by only conceding nine runs.
During the last over of the match, Mumbai required 16 runs to win. Arshdeep performed exceptionally well by only allowing two runs and taking out Tilak Varma and Nehal Wadhera in consecutive deliveries by breaking the middle stumps.
Arshdeep’s impressive performance received praise from Punjab captain Sam Curran and Mumbai and national captain Rohit Sharma. Commentator Danny Morrison was impressed by Arshdeep’s composure in the midst of the intense situation.
Arshdeep suggested that Danny should stand next to them and feel the heartbeat because it was not anywhere near 120, and they said it happily.
