Mustafizur Rahman has not had many opportunities to play in the Indian Premier League since joining Delhi Capitals on April 1, and he has not performed well in the two matches he has played.
Mustafizur sat out the first three matches of Delhi’s IPL campaign and played in the subsequent matches against Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. In both matches, Delhi lost and Mustafizur only managed to take one wicket while conceding 79 runs in seven overs.
During his final match for Delhi against RCB on April 15th, Mustafizur gave up 41 runs in three overs with an economy rate of 13.66 and was replaced as per the new impact player regulation.
During a press conference in Sylhet today, Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha was asked about Mustafizur’s form concerns. Hathurusingha replied that it is hard to determine if someone is out of form if they haven’t played many games recently.
Hathurusingha stated that Mustafizur has not had many opportunities to play recently, but whenever he played for Bangladesh, he performed well and contributed to the team. Hathurusingha plans to evaluate Mustafizur’s performance after he returns from IPL.
The Bangladesh cricket team is currently in Sylhet for a three-day training camp before they go to the United Kingdom for a three-match ODI series against Ireland as part of the ODI Super League. They will have their last training session in Sylhet today before flying to Dhaka in the evening.
Bangladesh will depart for the UK on May 2 and it is anticipated that Mustafizur will join the team in the UK directly from the IPL.
