Marcus Stoinis of the Lucknow Super Giants hit a powerful shot during an IPL game against the Punjab Kings in Mohali. With Stoinis scoring 72 runs off 40 balls, Lucknow recorded the second-highest total in IPL history and won by 56 runs.

Marcus Stoinis and Kyle Mayers hit 11 boundaries each to help Lucknow Super Giants achieve the second-highest team total in the Indian Premier League. They achieved this during their 56-run victory over Punjab Kings on Friday. Lucknow was asked to bat first and Mayers gave them a quick start, scoring 41 runs from 21 balls with captain KL Rahul. They finished on 257-5.

Kagiso Rabada dismissed the opening batsmen, including Mayers who was caught at mid-on after scoring 54 runs. However, Stoinis continued to play aggressively and scored an impressive 72 runs from 40 balls.

The Australian cricketer stated that the wicket they played on was much more favorable for batting compared to the one in their home country. They even made lighthearted comments about it during the game.

Stoinis hit six fours and five sixes in the 19th over, scoring 22 runs off the last nine balls he faced. The only Punjab bowler who was able to slow down the scoring was wrist spinner Rahul Chahar, who gave away 29 runs in his four overs without taking any wickets.

Punjab scored 201 runs, thanks to Atharav Taide’s 66 off 36 balls, in a difficult chase. Stoinis got an early wicket by catching returning captain Shikhar Dhawan (1) in the deep after he made a mistake with an uppercut in the first over.

The Australian player had to stop playing during the night because he was hit on the hand while bowling and had to retire due to the pain. However, he was not bothered by it after the game.

Taide was dismissed in the 13th over by leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi, who claimed his first wicket of the evening. Bishnoi also went on to dismiss Liam Livingstone for 23, putting an end to Punjab’s slim chances of winning.

Sikander Raza was the only player from Punjab to score over 30 runs before their team was all out on the second-last ball. Lucknow’s total score was just six runs short of the tournament record set by Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2013 against Pune Warriors, when they scored 263-5.

The game had the second-highest number of boundaries, with 45 fours and 22 sixes, in the history of the IPL. The only game with more boundaries was between Chennai and Rajasthan Royals in 2010, which had 69.
