Coach Chandika Hathurusingha of Bangladesh has said that her team is one of the finest in its history and has high hopes for the 2018 Asia Cup.

A hybrid format will be used for the Asia Cup, with four games being played in Pakistan and the remaining games being played in Sri Lanka. The official schedule for the event was released yesterday by the Asian Cricket Council.

Group B consists of Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan. Two teams from each group will advance to the Super Four round in the 2023 Edition. The Super Four’s top two teams will meet in the championship game.

We’ve already begun planning for the Asia Cup, and Bangladesh will be sending one of its strongest teams ever. This is the biggest chance we’ve had to make history in Bangladesh in a meaningful way. Competing teams would be doing equivalent preparation. Before the third day of the one-off Test between Bangladesh and Afghanistan at Mirpur, Hathurusingha told broadcasters, “We want to do things in our control.”

After Najmul Hossain Shanto scored a century in the first innings, the Tigers seemed like they would take a commanding lead into the second innings in Mirpur today. Bangladesh now has a lead of more than 450.

With barely three days into the one-off Test, Hathurusingha anticipated that Bangladesh will continue batting.

Since this is a one-off Test, we’d prefer to bat for the whole day if we have any say in the matter. So, there’s no goal in sight right now,” he’d remarked.

Hathurusingha’s first stint saw the debuts of players like Shanto, Liton Das, Taskin Ahmed, and Mehedi Hasan Miraz, and the Sri Lankan has claimed that seeing these players succeed now gives him faith in his own judgment.

Extremely rewarding, since planning someone’s debut requires foresight and careful consideration of many factors. I’m pleased with the results because you develop trust in your own discretion and judgments.
