Shanto, mushfiqur fall after lead swells past 5000

On Friday at Mirpur, Bangladesh’s second-innings 124-run dismissal of Afghanistan’s Najmul Hossain Shanto pushed their advantage in the one-off Test above 500 runs.

Soon after hitting a six, Mushfiqur went for eight in the same over while attempting a reverse sweep of the bowler.

Shanto scored a hundred off 115 balls, adding to his 146 from the previous innings. Bangladesh were 255 for 2 in 48 overs at lunch, having scored 121 runs in the 25 overs leading up to that point. After Shanto reached 124, he sent back an easy catch to Hashmatullah Shahidi off Zahir Khan. Mominul Haque had 43 on the scoreboard. In addition to his three half-centuries, this was Shanto’s fourth century in Test play.

However, Zakir Hasan, the other overnight batsman, was run out before he could achieve a century. Zakir made 71 runs off of 95 balls, but he was out trying to steal third base after he had already walked for two.
