Wicketkeeper Jimmy Peirson was included in Australia’s team for the Ashes match against England on Friday. This was done as a replacement for Josh Inglis, who will leave the tour after the first test to attend the birth of his first child at home.

The Queensland wicketkeeper will join the rest of the squad in London in preparation for the second test match, which will begin on June 28 at Lord’s Stadium. After the match, Inglis will go back to Perth.

“Peirson has trained with the squad in the past and was part of a Brisbane mini camp last week,” Cricket Australia said, adding that Inglis, who is the back-up wicketkeeper to Alex Carey, will rejoin the group at a later date. “Peirson has trained with the squad in the past and was part of a Brisbane mini camp last week.”

Peirson’s performance as a wicketkeeper, aggressive batsman, and leader as the captain of Queensland and the Brisbane Heat has earned him praise at both the domestic and Australia A level.

Edgbaston will play host to the first match of the series, which consists of five tests, on June 16. Before that, on June 7, the last match of the World Test Championship will take place at The Oval between Australia and India.
