Kazi Salahuddin, head of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), stated that the projected Women’s Super League (WSL) will begin on June 10, but that it will be a trial project, and the success of the project will determine whether or not the initiative will continue in the future.
According to Salahuddin, who spoke to media after an emergency meeting of the BFF executive committee yesterday, the franchise football league will consist of four clubs, and there will be a total of 13 matches played across 12 match days. The league’s initial intended start date was May 15, but it was pushed back from that date.
Because there will be a FIFA Window during those particular dates, the league will be played at that period, and it will be open to players from other countries.
The league organizers, K-Sports, have been granted permission for a trial run lasting one year from our end. “If the event is successful and acceptable to players and people, then we would have a fresh contract for five to ten years,” the boss of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) said. He also added that the BFF will act only as an intermediary and will distribute the Tk 20 lakh it will get from the agreement among the under-17 women’s team for their recent victory in the SAFF U-17 Women’s Championship.
The head of the BFF, on the other hand, did not try to conceal his skepticism over the performance of the WSL when he stated, “I don’t know much about it as India is the only place where a franchise league is held. They (K-Sports) have informed us that the preparedness [for finishing everything including importing international players] is something that they have within this time frame.
In the meanwhile, Salahuddin said that he had been informed that he had received an official resignation letter from Golam Rabbani Choton, the head coach of the women’s team, and that a decision about the matter will be made during the next meeting of the executive committee.PHOTO: BFF
