In a statement, former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal stated that he will make a decision regarding his future only after the BPL.
Following a meeting at the BCB president’s home, the left-handed opener made a statement at his residence on Monday, just hours after the BCB president had stated that he will make a decision regarding the player’s future following the forthcoming Bangladesh Premier League in January.
“I informed him [Tamim] that I would accept my decision following the BPL,” Papon said to reporters following his discussion with the opener.
Tomorrow at Sylhet, Bangladesh will begin their two-match Test series against New Zealand.
Tamim expressed regret for the meeting’s scheduling, wishing to prevent any unforeseen disruption to the national team due to his problems. Then, he disclosed that he will resume playing in the next BPL season. Following Papon’s assessment of the circumstances that forced Tamim to withdraw from the World Cup, he plans to make a decision on his playing career.
“He [Papon] advised me to pause and wait until January to see what happens. Maybe after the BPL, I’ll start playing cricket. After that, you will have a good understanding of what will occur,” Tamim said in his statement.
“I’ve already informed you that I’ve made my decision, so I will never plan to drag this out or even desire to take more time. The president and the board and I have talked about a lot of topics; I should also honour what they have informed me. I’ll play the BPL until January, at which point we’ll definitely have another conversation.
“He said that after listening to me alone, he won’t make a decision. He will hear what everyone has to say and will make some firm judgements. “I’ll hold off and observe the outcome,” he continued.
