Back issues that had been affecting Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal have resurfaced in preparation for the upcoming series against Afghanistan. The left-handed batsman played in the nets today with a great deal of difficulty as a result of the ailment.
Because of the weather, the national team was unable to begin its training on Friday, and they did not check into their hotel until the day after, on Saturday. Tamim, who had been instructed to relax on Thursday, struggled throughout the fielding drill with the fielding coach Shane McDermott today, on his first day back at training after being urged to rest the previous day. When he had to stoop down to retrieve balls that had been buried in the earth, he gritted his teeth and held his back in an uncomfortable position. Shane McDermott’s reaction to this was that he became worried for Tamim’s health.
Shortly after that, the time allotted for Tamim to practice fielding came to an end. After the physiotherapist had entered the room to attend to the left-handed person, the man became irritated and requested the physiotherapist to leave the room as a consequence of his aggravation.
Tamim also had difficulty batting in the practice nets, and at one point he gave the other bowlers the advice to bowl at a longer length so as not to put any further pressure on his back. He did this so that he would not have to deal with any additional pain. However, it looked that he had difficulty with his backfoot strokes, despite the fact that his drives appeared to be easy. While he was at the crease to bat against the spinner Mehedi Hasan Miraz, he was confronted with a pull shot that caused him to once again clutch his back in agony. After having a flare-up of his back difficulties during the course of the final few days of the team’s training sessions, Tamim was had to take some time off in order to recover. There is considerable uncertainty over his participation in the Afghanistan Test, which will begin in only three days. This raises the issue of whether or not he will be able to participate.
