Following Bangladesh’s dramatic victory against South Africa in the first game of their T20I series, a number of its players have been rewarded on the latest ICC player rankings.

The Tigresses stunned South Africa by a close 13-run margin in Benoni, their first win against the Proteas in their own backyard, and it was the result of several excellent performances from a big variety of their players.

Shorna Akter, 16, of Bangladesh, rose to a career-high position in the rankings after her maiden five-wicket haul in the series opener on Sunday.

She rose 46 places to 105th among bowlers, with 297 ratings points, from 151st, and 38 places to 79th among all-rounders, with 63 points, in the weekly women’s rankings update, which includes the previous week’s performances up to December 4th.

Rabeya Khan advanced five places in the bowlers list to 24th with 591 points and 12 positions in the all-rounders list, rising from 75th to 63rd (72 points), while Fahima Khatun advanced three places to 46th with 511 points.

Captain Nigar Sultana moved up one spot to 19th (586 points), while opening batter Murshida Khatun’s 62 from 59 balls moved her up seven spots to 41st (464 points).

South Africa’s Anneke Bosch advanced 20 places in the batters list to a career-high 14th place (612 points) after scoring a personal-best 67 from 49 deliveries, while she advanced eight places to 54th in the all-rounders list (83 points).

On Wednesday (10pm Bangladesh time), Bangladesh and South Africa will play their second and penultimate T20I in Kimberley.
