Shakib Al Hasan, an all-rounder for Bangladesh, might not be able to go on the Tigers’ December trip to New Zealand, where they will play three One-Day Internationals and three Twenty20s. He missed the home Test series against New Zealand.
Shakib went to the BCB office in Mirpur today for the first time since November 6, when he hurt his finger in Bangladesh’s second-to-last World Cup game against Sri Lanka. This kept him out of the final game against Australia and the home Test series against New Zealand.
As things stand, Shakib is still not sure if he will be able to go on Bangladesh’s tour of New Zealand next month.
A member of BCB’s medical department told The Daily Star today, “He (Shakib) came here so that we could change the bandage on his broken finger.”
It was learned that Shakib would need an X-ray on his left index finger in three weeks, when the bandage will be taken off.
Bangladesh is set to leave for New Zealand on December 11. His dressing will likely be closed on December 13 to check on his health, so it’s not clear if he will be able to go on the tour.
The BCB person who is close to the team management said, “Let’s see” when asked if Shakib could go on the tour.
At the same time, today the BCB selection group met at the BCB buildings. After the World Cup, the Tigers will play again in a home Test series against the Kiwis, which is set to start on November 28 in Sylhet.
