The 48th Copa America will take place next year and have 10 South American teams and 6 North American teams. It will begin in Atlanta and end in Miami, organisers said Monday.
The first game will be held at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on June 20, and the final will be held at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, on July 14.
Two NFL stadiums have been the sites of the Super Bowl. They will be among the US places for the special edition of the event, which is usually held in South America but will be held in the US in 2024.
“We expect stadiums to be packed with fans from all over North and South America for the start and end of an unforgettable CONMEBOL Copa America,” said Alejandro Dominguez, head of CONMEBOL. “We look forward to the best CONMEBOL Copa America of all time.”
Six spots for CONCACAF teams in the event are still up for grabs. By Tuesday, four teams will have been chosen, and two more will be chosen in March 2024 play-offs.
For the US, this game will be a warm-up for the 2026 World Cup, which they will co-host with Mexico and Canada.
