At the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Monday, Bangladesh Test and T20I captain Shakib Al Hasan led Galle Titans to an exciting victory against Dambulla Aura in a thrilling super-over match. Shakib Al Hasan provided an all-round performance.
The left-handed hitter was sent in at number five in the first innings after Galle were given the opportunity to bat. He hit two sixes and a four during his 14-ball knock for a total of 23 runs before being castled by Pakistan’s Shahnawaz Dahani as Galle registered a score of 180 for five.
Bhanuka Rajapaksa, a left-handed batsman, hit a 48 off of 34 balls, while Dasun Shanaka, the captain, slammed four sixes and two fours for his 42 off of 21 balls, which sent Galle above the 150-run mark.
Shanaka returned to capture three wickets with the ball and received adequate assistance from Shakib, who stayed economical, capturing the wicket of Sadeera Samarawickrama while giving out only 25 runs from his four overs. Shanaka’s performance with the ball was aided by the fact that Shakib remained frugal.
Dhananjaya de Silva and Kusal Perera, both of Dambulla, struck 43 and 40 runs, respectively, to bring their team to the cusp of victory.
Alex Ross was able to take Kasun Rajitha for 15 runs in the last over of the match, which resulted in a tie between the two teams and forced the game to go into an exciting super over, which Galle was able to win.
The Galle Rajapaksa team won their opening match of the competition by chasing down 10 runs to win.
