On Saturday, Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Mumbai Indians, was out for a duck after facing three balls during the team’s match against the Chennai Super Kings. This was Sharma’s 16th out in the Indian Premier League with a score of zero.
Before the start of the 49th IPL 2023 event, Rohit was tied for first place on the list with Sunil Narine, Mandeep Singh, and Dinesh Karthik. With this performance, Rohit has passed all of them to become the batter who has scored the most runs in the history of the league.
One of the hitters who has had the greatest success in the Indian Premier League also owns the record for the highest amount of ducks on which he was dismissed.
Cameron Green, an Australian all-rounder, will bat first for Australia during the away game since Rohit, who had also struck a duck after three balls in the game before, made the decision to give up his opening slot. The scheme was a failure, as Green resigned in the second over itself with a meager score of 6 (four birdies and four doubles). Ishan Kishan, the other opener, was able to endure another three balls before being sent off to follow his teammate.
After not opening for MI for the first time in 62 innings spanning five years, Rohit stepped in at No. 3, only to surrender a routine catch to Ravindra Jadeja at gully when trying to play a lap shot minutes later. This was Rohit’s first time not beginning for MI.
In the Twenty20 format, Rohit also holds the record for the most ducks scored by an Indian player. Karthik is now the one who is closest to him on this unofficial ranking.
