Rashid says ‘more than 1000’ wrist spinners in afghanistan0

Rashid Khan of the Gujarat Titans celebrates with a teammate after getting the wicket of Riyan Parag of the Rajasthan Royals during their Indian Premier League (IPL) match at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on May 5, 2023. The match was played in the 2023 edition of the IPL.

While Bangladesh, after having been a Test-playing nation for more than two decades, are still trying to cultivate a competent wrist spinner, the superstar leggie of Afghanistan, Rashid Khan, has made a bold assertion that his country boasts’more than 1000′ wrist spinners.

It was the wristspin tandem of Rashid and his 18-year-old compatriot, Noor Ahmad, who hunted in pair for Gujarat Titans in their resounding win over Rajasthan Royals in the current Indian Premier League in Jaipur on Friday. This victory gave Gujarat Titans a nine-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals.

The previous year, Noor was purchased by Gujarat for the basic price of Rs. 50 lakh. This year, he has appeared in six matches for Gujarat and has taken 10 wickets while maintaining an economy rate of just seven runs per over. Even in yesterday’s match, he played an important role, taking two wickets while allowing only 25 runs in three overs.

In the meantime, Rashid, who has taken 18 wickets in 10 matches so far this season and was named player of the match yesterday for providing exceptional statistics of three for 14 in four overs, continues to be among the best players in terms of the number of wickets that he has taken.

During the post-match presentation ceremony, Rashid was asked how many more people in Afghanistan are similar to Noor and himself, and he responded with a perplexing answer. Rashid’s response to Harsha Bhogle’s question, “To be honest, more than 1000 now,” had taken him by surprise.

Rashid went on to explain how his achievements at the international level have motivated a large number of people in his country to practice one of the most challenging skills in cricket.

“I have gone to a few different academies, and there are a lot of people that twist their legs. After the first year of IPL, there were a total of 250 of them. Now, I have been playing IPL for the past seven to eight years, and there are a lot of people in Afghanistan trying to imitate me. Every day, I get a large number of films with brand new leg spinners.

Rashid said, “I’m so happy to see Noor perform here, there are so many more like Qais Ahmed, and Zahir Khan who haven’t gotten their opportunities in IPL but when they do they can perform really well.” “I’m so happy to see Noor perform here.”

The Gujarat Titans have accumulated a total of 14 points after playing in ten matches, and with yesterday’s victory, they came one step closer to qualifying for the postseason.
