On Tuesday at SuperSport Park in Centurion, India labored on the opening day of the first Test, with South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada claiming five wickets.
176 for seven at tea subsequent to India’s submission. Five wickets for Rabada (41 runs) constituted his fourteenth five-wicket haul in Test cricket.
KL Rahul persevered under difficult circumstances until the tea break, at which point he was on 39 not out.
India’s predicament could have been more severe had it been reduced to 24 for three. With scores of four each, Virat Kohli (38) and Shreyas Iyer (31) were dismissed.
Kohli and Iyer then contributed 68 runs for the fourth wicket before being dispatched immediately after lunch by Rabada in an inspired three-wicket spell.
Iyer was dismissed off the pitch by a cutback ball, and Kohli was caught behind by an outstanding delivery that spun away late.
Temba Bavuma, captain of South Africa, withdrew from the field prior to lunch with a strained left hamstring and did not reappear.
According to a communiqué issued by the South African dressing room, “daily medical evaluations will be conducted to ascertain his suitability for the match.”
The commencement was postponed by thirty minutes due to wet areas on the field, which had been covered for forty hours due to precipitation the day before Tuesday. The bowlers received ample assistance, but only new cap Nandre Burger provided Rabada with consistent support.
Burger captured two early wickets, including Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who were both caught behind for 17 and two runs, respectively.
