Goncalo Ramos, a Portugal forward, has moved from Benfica to Paris Saint-Germain on a one-year loan with an option to buy, the French champions said on Monday.
Ramos, who is 22 years old, came up through the Portuguese club’s youth program and scored 19 goals in the league in 30 games last season.
In his first game for his country, a win over Switzerland in the last 16 of the 2022 World Cup, he scored a hat trick and set up another goal.
“Joining Paris Saint-Germain is a huge moment of pride and happiness,” Ramos said in a PSG release.
He also said, “PSG is one of the biggest clubs in the world and has one of the best teams.”
Ramos is the eighth player the Parisians have brought in this summer, joining players like France’s Lucas Hernandez and Spain’s Marco Asensio.
They didn’t get Harry Kane, who was rumored to be going to Bayern Munich. Kane is an English scorer.
PSG will start their defense of their Ligue 1 title against Lorient on Saturday, but there are still questions about Kylian Mbappe’s future.
The leader of France has one year left on his deal with PSG, but the club would rather have him leave now than let him leave for free next summer.
Mbappe won’t sign a new contract, and PSG thinks he has already agreed to move to Real Madrid next year.
The fight between the 24-year-old player and the French club hit a new high last month when he was left off the team that went on a tour of Japan and South Korea.
Mbappe has been working out with the substitutes to get ready for the new season.
