The future of Nigeria coach Jose Peseiro is up to the country’s supporters after the president of the country’s football federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, said that he would defer to their judgment about Peseiro’s employment.
Peseiro, who has previously coached Porto and Sporting in his own country and took over Nigeria in May of last year, has guided his team to the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations, which will be held in Ivory Coast beginning in January. However, Peseiro’s contract will expire on June 30.
It is now being discussed on a national level whether or not the 63-year-old should be kept on, and Gusau has said that the decision should be left up to the people.
During an appearance on the LovingFootball radio program, Gusau said that “We have the plan to push the votes to Nigerians in order to hear their views and thoughts.”
“We have experimented with both the local coaches and the international coaches.
It’s possible that we didn’t make the best choice when it came to hiring the proper individual. We are going to put it out there to the general public and ask them whether they think we should keep working with Peseiro or if they think he should go.
Even though Peseiro has been able to choose from a wide variety of players who are now active in the major leagues of Europe, the team’s performance has been inconsistent under his leadership despite the fact that Nigeria has qualified for the continental tournament.
Nigeria has gone 4–5 in their games after they were unable to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar last year. They have won four of the games.
