After their demands to cease an unlawful building project at his estate outside of Rio de Janeiro were disregarded, environmental regulators in Brazil penalized football star Neymar for a second time on Saturday.
Officials claimed that environmental authorities in Brazil issued the punishment.
The Brazil and Paris Saint-Germain star was already facing a fine of at least 5 million reais ($1 million) after authorities said Thursday that they had found “various environmental infractions” at his luxury property in the resort town of Mangaratiba, where workers were building an artificial lake and beach. The infractions occurred while workers were constructing an artificial lake and beach.
Reports in the Brazilian media said that Neymar had held a party at the location and gone swimming in the lake despite the fact that the authorities had roped off the area and ordered a stop to any activities at the location.
The municipal authorities of the city said on Sunday that environmental inspectors had returned on Saturday and observed “activity” at the location, “violating the restraining order and committing further environmental infractions.”
It was said that Neymar would be had to pay an extra punishment for an amount that was not disclosed, and that “the total value will be calculated after a full investigation,” which it anticipated would be completed the next week.
The project was found to have diverted a canal, drawn water from a river, undertaken substantial excavation and landscaping, and utilized beach sand without the required licenses, as discovered by inspectors.
The agents for Neymar in Brazil have not replied to AFP’s requests for comment on the situation.
