Head coach Javier Cabrera announced a 30-person preliminary group for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers against Australia and Lebanon. Forward Sheikh Morsalin has been called back to the national team.
The men in red and green will begin their World Cup qualifying campaign on the road in Australia on November 16. Five days later, they will play Lebanon at the Bashundhara Kings arena in Dhaka.
Chandon Roy, a central midfielder, was a surprise addition to the team. Riadul Hasan, a centre back, and Rahim Uddin, a winger, were also called up.
Bashundhara Kings forward Morsalin was kicked off the national team along with four other players before the pre-qualifiers against Maldives because he got drunk on the team’s way home from Maldives after an AFC Cup match and was suspended by the club.
Chandon was picked because of how well he played for Sheikh Russel in the Independence Cup, even though his team was eliminated in the group stage. He earlier played for Bangladesh in the SAFF U-19 Championship.
Abdul Baten, the assistant coach for Sheikh Russel, told The Daily Star, “Chandon played all three Independence Cup games for 90 minutes and was the best player for the team.” “As a central midfielder, Chandan meets all the requirements, including being able to guide the game, read the game, and make decisions.” I believe he will do a good job for the national team.
Today, Bangladesh will start the training camp. They will leave for Australia early on November 11. The players from the Bashundhara Kings will join the camp after their November 7 AFC Cup game at home against Mohun Bagan.
