On Sunday, Luis Diaz came off the bench in a 1-1 draw at Luton to keep Liverpool from losing. It was his first game since his parents were taken in his home country of Colombia.
Ten minutes from time, Tahith Chong gave Luton a stunning lead, and the winger came on right after.
In the fifth minute of added time, Diaz scored with a goal after a high jump. This kept the Hatters from getting their first Premier League home win.
His mother was saved just hours after being captured on October 28, but his father, Luis Manuel Diaz, is still being looked for.
The 26-year-old actor showed off a t-shirt that said “freedom for Dad” after scoring and again at the end of the game.
Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, said before the game that the field could be a “safe place” for Diaz to forget about the worries of the past week.
His amazing power, on the other hand, made up for the Reds’ bad play and loss.
This summer, Liverpool spent more on each of their starting middle three players than Luton has ever done in the transfer market since the Premier League started in 1992.
Still, Rob Edwards’ team was just seconds away from one of the biggest surprises in the history of the Premier League.
Darwin Nunez hit the post early on for the other team.
Still, it was a huge miss with the score tied at 0-0 that will haunt the Uruguayan.
Late in the game, Mohamed Salah should have scored with a free shot from close range.
But when the Egyptian’s shot fell to Nunez, he somehow hit the post with the goal open.
Instead, it was Chong who scored the first goal in an unusual way.
Liverpool was calling for a penalty because Ross Barkley was tripping over a corner kick. At the same time, Luton broke forward, and Issa Kabore crossed the ball for the former Manchester United winger to score.
Then Diaz was called up from the bench, and in a fairy tale finish, he scored the equaliser when he met Harvey Elliott’s cross to the back post.
The head of the ELN rebel group that arrested the couple said that the group had made a “mistake,” which gives people hope that Diaz’s father will soon be freed.
Liverpool missed the chance to move up to second place in the table, but they are now in third place, one point ahead of Arsenal.
With a point, Luton is no longer in danger of going down.
Forest knock out Villa
Earlier, Nottingham Forest shocked Aston Villa by beating them 2-0, giving them their first Premier League win in seven games. Goals from Ola Aina and Orel Mangala sealed the win.
Both teams were in very different shapes going into the game. Unai Emery’s Villa had won all six of their league games and were now in fifth place in the table.
But Villa got off to a bad start when Aina scored from outside the box after five minutes. The away team never got back on track.
Emiliano Martinez, the custodian for Villa, won the Ballon d’Or earlier this week as the best custodian in the world. He did amazing things to help Argentina win the World Cup last year.
But Martinez made a mistake early in the second half that let Forest score their second goal.
Martinez blocked Mangala’s long-range shot, but it looped back into his goal because he wasn’t able to do enough to stop it.
Another important win for Forest puts an end to rumours that Steve Cooper could be fired, making him the first Premier League boss of the season to be fired.
“That was a great win. Cooper said, “We knew they were going to be a good team that was just getting better.”
“I’ve got a lot of gratitude for the players for sticking to the plan and committing to it”
It’s now 12th in the table, eight points clear of the bottom three teams.
