During an interview on the Offside with Taylor Twellman podcast, Jorge Mas, one of the co-owners of Inter Miami, indicated that the American club would assist Lionel Messi in some manner in his return to Camp Nou.
“I’m not sure whether this is some kind of friendly competition or a goodbye game. They compete over the summer months for something called the Gamper Trophy. But there will be something where, maybe when the new Camp Nou is complete — since their stadium there is being construction and won’t be ready for another year and a half — Lionel Messi will be able to say his appropriate farewell.
“That does not mean that you have to play for Barcelona. He will not be heading there on loan at any point. “There is no way that will take place,” Mas said.
“Indeed, he should have had a proper farewell there. Yes, and I will do all in my ability to facilitate and assist him in accomplishing that goal.
A significant portion of the Argentine superstar’s whole professional career was spent with the Catalan club, where he was instrumental in winning a number of championships.
Messi’s history with Barcelona dates back to when he was only a little child of 10 years old. He became a member of the club’s youth program and ascended through the levels of the organization quite rapidly. However, Messi was compelled to quit Barcelona a few years ago owing to the club’s inability to continue paying his salary.
