On July 21, the Major League Soccer club Inter Miami will play the opening game of their Leagues Cup campaign at home against Cruz Azul of Mexico. This will be Messi’s debut for Inter Miami.
Messi had said on June 9, 2023, that he was planning to relocate to Miami in the near future.
In an interview that was published in the newspapers Mundo Deportivo and Sport, Lionel Messi said, “I made the decision that I’m going to go to Miami.”
“I still haven’t finished it up completely. Despite the fact that I am still lacking a few items, we have chosen to proceed. If things didn’t work out in Barcelona, I wanted to go away from the limelight and focus more on my family, so I planned to move out of Europe.
“After winning the World Cup and not being able to go to Barca, it was time to go to the U.S. league to experience football in a different way and to enjoy the day-to-day,” Messi said. “It was time to go to the U.S. league.”
