Gerrard says “family feeling” was a key reason for joining Al-Ettifaq

Gerrard says

Steven Gerrard has said that a “family feeling” at the Saudi Arabian Pro league team Al-Ettifaq was one of the elements that convinced him to accept a coaching position with the side.

This was one of the reasons why Steven Gerrard decided to take the job.

Although he had earlier said that he would not be taking up an opportunity to join the squad, the former captain of England and Liverpool signed a three-year deal with the organization last week.

Gerrard, who is now 43 years old, had a change of heart and is the newest high-profile player to sign for a Saudi Arabian club.

“I felt like a member of the family while I was in Saudi Arabia. According to a tweet sent by Al-Ettifaq’s account on Sunday, Gerrard said, “It actually made me feel welcomed.”

“There are three things that I always examine in order, and the first and foremost is whether or not it is in the best interest of my family. He remarked that we need to be enthused and motivated by the task that we face.

“Thirdly, I believe that the football project needs to be ambitious, and it needs to be for the appropriate reasons. After that, of course, you need to feel secure with the contract, but this comes at the very end.”

The transaction is the most recent high-profile acquisition for Al-Nassr since the club’s signing of Cristiano Ronaldo in December of last year. Former Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema joined Al-Ittihad in June.

Gerrard is following in the footsteps of his former teammate Robbie Fowler, who was hired on Thursday as the coach of the Al-Qadsiah soccer club, which competes in the Saudi second level.

Before departing for Aston Villa in 2021, Gerrard led Rangers to their first Scottish Premiership championship in ten years, which they won in 2021. Gerrard was fired from his position as manager at Aston Villa in October of last year.

In the previous season of the Saudi Pro League, which is the highest level of play, Al-Ettifaq finished sixth.
