Melbourne stars routed for record-low 29 in women's bbl0

In the women’s Big Bash League, the Melbourne Stars, who included Australia captain Meg Lanning and numerous English internationals, were swept out for just 29 runs.

Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes’ combined total of 66 in 2017 was the previous low in the Eight Seasons of the Twenty20 Competition.

Against the dominant defending champions Adelaide Strikers, the Stars’ innings lasted only 57 legal deliveries and resulted in a crushing loss by 148 runs.

After Saturday night’s game at Karen Rolton Oval in Adelaide, Strikers captain Tahlia McGrath stated, “Everyone was screaming ‘this is absurd, what’s happening.

“It’s still a little bit hard to process.”

Annabel Sutherland, also an Australian, and the English contingent of Sophia Dunkley, Alice Capsey, and Maia Bouchier rounded out the Stars’ top order.

Zimbabwean leg-spinner Anesu Mushangwe took two wickets, while Megan Schutt and Amanda-Jade Wellington both took three.
