The Bangladesh Emerging Team lost by five wickets to Sri Lanka Wednesday at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, bringing their one-day series loss to Sri Lanka to 2-1.
Parvez Hossain, batting first, scored 32 runs, and Pritom Kumar, batting second, scored 35 runs, giving the tourists a good start until Sri Lanka took several wickets and got back in it. For the fourth wicket, Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Shahadat Hossain Dipu put up 67 runs, but after Joy was out to Chamindu Wickramasinghe, Bangladesh faltered.
Bangladesh were bowled out for 220 in 47 overs, with Dipu scoring the most runs for his team with 79 off 75 deliveries. Both Wickramasinghe and Ashian Daniel had three-wicket hauls.
In the first over, Ripon Mondol removed Sohan de Livera, and in the ninth over, he got rid of the other opener, Shevon Daniel. No. 3 batsman Pavan Rathnayake scored 85 off just 56 balls, and it was enough to win the game quickly. The target was reached in 31.2 overs, thanks in large part to 47 not out from Navod Paranavithana. On October 25, the first of two unauthorised Tests would get underway in the same location.
