Matter of tamim’s captaincy to be discussed: bcb0

The head of the board’s cricket operations committee, Jalal Yunus, suggested today that the BCB isn’t sure if Tamim Iqbal will return to the team as captain of the ODI team.

Jalal says that Tamim, who recently changed his mind about retiring from international play, will talk about the position when he gets back from getting treatment in the UK.

“Let him come back first, because we need to talk to him about being captain. There is a question about his health, and he said he would first come back to the country and then talk about it,” Jalal told the media after Bangladesh beat Afghanistan by seven wickets in the final ODI today in Chattogram.

Tamim has been having trouble with a back problem that keeps coming back. He didn’t even play in the one Test match between India and Afghanistan last month. Even though he wasn’t in perfect shape, the left-hander played in the first ODI against Afghanistan.

“Tamim is going to Dubai, and on July 25 or 26, he might fly from there to the UK. He has meetings with doctors at two different medical centers in the UK. He will keep us up to date on his health from time to time. We will soon name a main group of 25–26 players for the upcoming Asia Cup. This is why we need to check his health and then decide when he can join,” Jalal said.

After the two T20I games against Afghanistan, the players will have a break until July 30. After the break, the board plans to set up a fitness camp.

Tamim shocked the whole country when he said he was done with international cricket after Bangladesh lost the first ODI by 17 runs last week. But after talking with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina the next day, the bowler changed his mind.
