Marufa Akter, the newest star on the Bangladesh women’s cricket team, had to save money from her lunch money to purchase tennis balls so that she could play cricket, according to her mother Morzina Begum, who made this revelation on Sunday. Akter is a member of the Bangladesh national squad.
Marufa, who is just eighteen years old, impressed with a performance that earned him the title of player-of-the-match in the inaugural one-day international match played against India at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. The Tigresses were able to win the first match thanks in large part to her four wickets, and Bangladesh were able to draw the series 1-1 because to her contributions in the third game.
Morzina reflected on the memories of her daughter’s trip, and she said that there was a time when she tried to dissuade Marufa from continuing to compete in the sport.
“She used to buy tennis balls by saving Tk 5 daily which her father gave her to buy tiffin,” Morzina told The everyday Star of her friend. “She used to play tennis.” “I used to scold her because of her association with cricket since it was uncommon for a female to take up the sport back when I was growing up. In order to prevent her from playing, I had her do all of the household tasks. But she quickly completed all that was asked of her, and then she went to practice, where she worked out alongside guys, including her siblings.
Marufa’s father, Aimullah Huque, is a sharecropper. On Sunday, he reveled at his daughter’s outstanding show on television from Kadikhol village of Songolshi union in sadar upazila of Nilphamari district. This caused the sufferings to be forgotten.
Aimullah always makes time to see the Tigresses play, despite the time restrictions that come with farming. On Sunday, he was joined at his home by a big gathering of locals who saw one of his teammates reverse the tide for their nation against a team like India.
The television in the living room was a present from Marufa, who had first purchased it with the money she earned from playing cricket.
When Aimullah went to the Dhelapir market in the afternoon, a delighted mob requested that the 52-year-old give them to sweets to honor Marufa’s outstanding exhibition. Aimullah complied with their request.
Aimullah did not let anybody down and instead spent 700 taka at the restaurant in the village to pamper everyone there. He used the funds that he obtained from the sale of a maund of rice.
When Marufa was a student at the Power Development Board High School and in the ninth grade, she participated in a school cricket tournament and did so well that it brought her to the notice of people in the surrounding community. During that time, she was instructed by the well-known coach Imran Hossain, who made arrangements for her to practice cricket at the Railway Stadium among players from the upazila level.
In 2019, she was discovered by the BKSP at a talent search that was held at the Nilphamari Stadium. The event was hosted by the Nilphamari Stadium. Since that time, she has made nothing but forward progress in her path. During the 2021-22 season of the Women’s Dhaka Premier League, she was recognized as the player with the highest potential and was awarded the title of most promising player.
The right-arm bowler was Bangladesh’s leading wicket-taker in the Under-19 World Cup, and he contributed to his team’s incredible victory against Australia in the competition by claiming a handful of wickets during that match.
Marufa is now waiting for the results of her SSC exams, which she just aced after completing the India Test with flying colors.
It was disclosed by Aimullah that he had been able to purchase three cows for his home using the pay that Marufa had given to her father. Marufa had given her father the money.
