The auction list for the next Women’s Indian Premier League (WIPL) next year includes Bangladesh pacer Marufa Akter and leg spinner Rabeya Khan.
Today, the IPL governing council released the list of players who will be auctioned off on December 9.
Both Tigresses were appraised at Rs 30 lakhs as a starting point.
Rabeya has appeared in 14 T20Is since making her debut against Nepal in 2019. In her 20-over international career, the 18-year-old has taken 16 wickets at a 4.57 economy rate.
Marufa, a right-arm seamer, has become an important performer for the Tigresses since her ODI debut against New Zealand last year. In the 13 T20Is she has played, she has taken 12 wickets with an economy rate of six.
The tournament’s 2024 edition comprises a total of 165 cricketers, 104 of them are Indians and the rest are international alternatives.
The five clubs – Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Gujarat Titans, Delhi Capitals, and UP Warriorz – will compete for the siganture of 30 players from the auction, with just nine buys reserved for foreign players.
In the 2023 edition, nine Bangladesh players submitted their names to be drafted for the mega auction, but only three — Jahanara Alam, Salma Khatun, and Shorna Akter – were chosen. However, none of the three were sold.
Deandra Dottin of the West Indies and Kim Garth of Australia have been evaluated at the highest base price in the forthcoming edition – Rs 50 lakhs.
Smriti Mandhana of India was the most expensive player in the previous season of the event, having been signed by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for a cost of Rs 3 crores and 40 lakhs.
The Gujarat Titans signed Australia’s Ashley Gardner for Rs 3 crores and 20 lakh, making her the most expensive foreign signing, alongside England’s Nat Sciver-Brunt, who was signed by the defending champions Mumbai Indians.
