Barcelona and Manchester United were among the teams fined by UEFA on Friday for breaking financial fair play (FFP) rules during the 2022/23 season.
United was fined €300,000 ($335,000) for not meeting the break-even rule, which is meant to keep clubs from losing too much money.

The Spanish winners, Barcelona, were fined 500,000 euros because they used money from the sale of virtual assets to balance their books, which is against the rules.
Since FFP rules were put in place in 2010, clubs have been able to report losses of no more than 30 million euros over the course of three years.
UEFA used these rules for the last time last season. Over the next three seasons, new rules about licensing and sustainability will be phased in.
Inter Milan, AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, Monaco, Roma, and Marseille, who were all in the finals of the Champions League, didn’t get punished because they met the goals set by UEFA.
The biggest fines, each worth two million euros, went to Royal Antwerp of Belgium and Trabzonspor of Turkey.
