Following Bangladesh’s victory against Afghanistan by a record 546 runs on the fourth day of the lone test match at Mirpur on Saturday, Bangladesh’s stand-in captain Liton Das said that he could not have hoped for more following the manner in which his team secured the victory.

The Tigers scored their greatest win margin in terms of runs in a Test match, which was also the largest in the 21st century for any side and the third-greatest in the annals of Test cricket’s long and illustrious history.

“Without a doubt, you simply cannot record a victory by such a large margin whenever you want to do so. During the post-match news conference in Mirpur today, Liton said that credit must be given to the batters for the manner in which they batted despite the fact that the wicket was not an easy one.

To tell you the truth, our bowlers bowled really well, keeping the line and length, and getting the support they needed, which is why things became simpler for them. However, as a captain, there is nothing more that can be asked of you when you win a game, particularly in Test cricket and especially when you do it by such a large margin. Therefore, I may rejoice.”

The batsman, who is 28 years old, also lauded Najmul Hossain Shanto for his consistency as a hitter for the Tigers across all forms. Najmul Hossain Shanto is a left-handed batter, but he overcame a dry spell early in his career to become one of the most reliable batters for the Tigers. Shanto became just the second Bangladesh batsman in history, after Mominul Haque, to score hundreds in both of his team’s innings against Afghanistan. Both of Shanto’s hundreds came against Afghanistan.

The new approach to training that Shanto provided, as stated by Liton, was beneficial to his development as a batter.

“Not too long ago, even I was there, just like Shanto, at the same location. I had several conversations with him. I have no idea how big of an impact it has on him, but I do think he has altered his approach to training, and he is certainly more organized today. When you play a significant amount of international cricket, it is inevitable that you will have an awareness of both your strengths and weaknesses.

“I believe that he (Shanto) brought such issues to our attention and worked on them. It’s a really encouraging indication, and I hope he keeps going in this direction. Nevertheless, there may be occasions when he will have a difficult time; nevertheless, it is essential that he is able to continue with the process and not give up,” he stated.
