Virat Kohli, captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore, celebrates his century scored against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Virat Kohli has stated that he does not intend to change his technique in order to add “fancy shots” to his repertoire in time for the Indian Premier League (IPL), which will take place just a few weeks before the final of the World Test Championship (WTC).

On Thursday, the India veteran helped the Royal Challengers Bangalore chase down their goal to win against the Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets. He scored 100 runs off of 63 balls during the chase.

The former captain of India has scored 538 runs across 13 games, which places him fourth on the list of the season’s highest scorers. However, his strike rate of 135.85 runs per hundred balls is below average for a top-order hitter.

Kohli has smashed 15 sixes, whilst his captain and the player with the most runs this season, Faf du Plessis, has hit 36, and Kohli’s teammate, Glenn Maxwell, has hit 30.

After being presented with the Player of the Match award, Kohli was quoted as saying, “Because we have to play all 12 months of the year, I’ve never been a guy who tries so many fancy shots.”

“It’s not about playing fancy shots or throwing away my wicket, at least not for me,” she said.

“We’ve got test cricket after the IPL, so I’ve got to stay true to my technique and find ways to win games for my team, which is something that I take a lot of pride in.”

Kohli has led India to the final of the first World T20 Championship in 2021, but they were defeated by New Zealand in that match. Even though he has subsequently been replaced as captain by Rohit Sharma, his performance will be extremely important to India’s chances of defeating Australia at the Oval and winning the most prestigious award in test cricket.

As a result of Kohli’s effort, he tied Chris Gayle for the record of most IPL hundreds with six, while Bangalore, who is now fourth in the points standings, moved closer to securing a spot in the playoffs.

Kohli was asked about the criticism directed towards his strike rate, and he responded by stating that his record speaks for itself.

“To tell you the truth, I really don’t give a damn about what anyone says about me on the outside, because that’s their opinion,” Kohli remarked.

“When you’re in that situation yourself, you know how to win games of cricket, and I’ve done that for a long period of time,” he said. “When you’re in that situation yourself, you know how to win games of cricket.”

“It’s not as though I can’t help my team win games when I on the field. My sense of accomplishment comes from how well I play the circumstance.
