In preparation for the World Cup, the battle for the number seven slot in Bangladesh’s batting order has intensified, as a number of players are contending for the significant position. Alongside rising talents like as Afif Hossain, Yasir Ali, and Mosaddek Hossain, the seasoned Mahmudullah Riyad is now in the background waiting for his opportunity.
Yesterday, Nazmul Hassan, the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), gave an interview to the media in which he expressed his opinion that having all-round qualities would be of major benefit at that place in the batting order.
In particular, Mosaddek was not receiving a lot of attention; but, given the present mindset of the team in terms of combination, it is possible that he will be considered for inclusion in the World Cup squad.
If we field five bowlers, we will have the ability to play an additional hitter. Yasir is currently a member of the squad, and Afif, Mahmudullah, and Mosaddek, who are not now a part of the squad, have the option to join at any moment. Who will fill in for us if one of our bowlers falls hurt during the game if we play with five? According to the president of the BCB, “it’s better if we find an all-rounder.”
After the ODI series against England, the team management decided to evaluate the performance of other players and removed Mahmudullah from the lineup.
It appears as though the first six spots in the batting order have been decided, but the all-around qualities of Afif and Mosaddek may put them apart. The capacity of the 37-year-old Mahmudullah to provide with the ball may be able to offset the fact that his fielding has declined a few levels, which is an area in which Afif and Mosaddek offer more, respectively.
When it comes to batting, both Afif and Mahmudullah have a case for themselves. Since coming back from his injury, Yasir’s performance hasn’t been particularly noteworthy. Bowling-wise, Afif, Mosaddek, and Mahmudullah will be in a better position than their opponents. According to the president of the board, Afif is a greater prospect than Riyad and Mosaddek has the potential to be a better prospect than Riyad when it comes to playing on the field.
