Sam Kerr, a prominent player for Australia’s women’s football team, will be out for a while after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury during Chelsea’s training camp in Morocco’s scorching heat.
Kerr will now start her recuperation under the guidance of the London club’s medical staff. The Blues will suffer greatly without her as they attempt to win the English Women’s Super League for a record fifth time in a row.
This season, Matildas captain Kerr has netted four goals in eight games for Chelsea, the top team in the WSL, and five goals in four outings in the European Champions League.
Before starting a protracted period of recovery, Kerr, who has scored 99 goals in 128 career appearances for Chelsea, will now be evaluated by a specialist.
“Everyone at Chelsea would like to wish Sam the very best for her recovery,” read a statement released by the club on Sunday.
Following her 2019 arrival, Kerr has contributed to Chelsea’s four WSL titles, three FA Cups, two WCL Cups, and the 2020 Women’s Community Shield.
