On Tuesday, it was announced that England’s fast bowler Jofra Archer will not be participating in the Ashes series against Australia. On the other hand, England’s Jonny Bairstow returned to the Test team for the one-off match against Ireland the following month after recovering from an injury.
After suffering injuries to his elbow and back, Archer was forced to sit out of international cricket for a period of 17 months before making his comeback in January. He has been ruled out “for the rest of the summer.”
His persistent injury forced him to quit his stay with the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) a week ago. The 28-year-old had featured in five matches for the team.
“It has been a frustrating and upsetting period for Jofra Archer,” Rob Key, the managing director for England men’s cricket, said in a statement. “It has been a period.”
He had been making good progress until he had a recurrence of the elbow injury that had previously forced him to miss a significant amount of time. No of the competition, I have no doubt that Jofra will return to his previous level of play and help England win more games. We can only hope that it will be sooner rather than later.”
After missing the Twenty20 World Cup in Australia due to a freak injury sustained while playing golf in September, Bairstow made his comeback to the team.
Ben Foakes, the team’s wicketkeeper, was replaced by Jonny Bairstow in order to make room for Bairstow for the match against Ireland at Lord’s starting on June 1.
“It was a seriously tough decision to leave Ben Foakes out of the squad,” stated Key.
Jonny Bairstow is one of the top players in the world, and his performances throughout the summer of 2017 exemplified what it means to be a part of this team. Despite the fact that he has performed admirably for England over the last year, we consider him to be among the best players in the world.
Chris Woakes, who plays for Warwickshire and is a seam bowler, has been absent from the Test squad since March 2022. Mark Wood, who plays for Durham and is a fast bowler, has also rejoined the team after sitting out the tour of New Zealand.
Both skipper Ben Stokes (left knee) and seamer James Anderson (groin) recently sustained injuries, although it does not appear that these ailments are significant since both players have been included to the team.
On June 16, the first match of the Ashes series between England and Australia will take place at Edgbaston.
James Anderson, Jonathan Bairstow, Stuart Broad, Harry Brook, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Dan Lawrence, Jack Leach, Ollie Pope, Matthew Potts, Ollie Robinson, Joe Root, Chris Woakes, and Mark Wood are members of the England squad. Ben Stokes serves as the team’s captain.
