After the conclusion of the three-match One-Day International series against Ireland in Chelmsford, the national selectors will immediately switch their attention to the next home series against Afghanistan.
Shakib Al Hasan, the captain of Bangladesh in both Tests and Twenty20 Internationals, suffered a fracture at the base of his index finger while attempting to catch a ball in the second one-day international against Ireland on Friday.
As a result of this injury, it is possible that Shakib Al Hasan will not be able to play in the one-off Test that Bangladesh will play against Afghanistan beginning on June 14. Healing from wounds of this nature often takes around six weeks.
We are keeping our fingers crossed that Shakib will be able to participate in the limited-over series. Yesterday, the selector Habibul Bashar stated, “It’s always difficult to replace someone like Shakib, but it’s a chance for others to make a statement.”
There will be a break between the first and second parts of the Afghanistan series. After the conclusion of the single Test match, the tourists will go to India to compete in a series using white-ball cricket, and then they will come back to Bangladesh to compete in a five-match ODI and a two-match T20I series.
Bashar also revealed that they would take time before declaring squad for the Afghanistan series as they will be examining performers of Bangladesh A who are due to take on West Indies A series in Sylhet, with the first of the three four-day “Tests” slated to begin on May 16. Bashar further informed that they will take time before announcing squad for the Afghanistan series.
