In the women’s semi-final match of the Asian Games 2023, which took place on Sunday in Hangzhou, the Bangladesh women’s team suffered a humiliating loss at the hands of India, losing by eight wickets.
After making the decision to bat first, Bangladesh was quickly bowled out for only 51 runs, which was followed by a disastrous batting collapse that was caused by Indian medium bowler Pooja Vastrakar’s four-wicket haul.
Nigar Sultana Joty was the only batter for the Tigresses to reach the double digits. The other batters were unable to make an impact, and the Tigresses were finally bundled out after 17.5 overs.
In their reply, India were able to complete their goal in 8.2 overs, despite losing two wickets; Jemimah Rodrigues was the only player to stay undefeated on twenty runs.
The women’s team from Bangladesh still has a shot at winning the bronze medal if they prevail in the game that decides third place against the losing side from the second semi-final match, which was played between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
